After goof up, OU to conduct re-exam

Express News Service

HYDERABAD: Students who took Philosophy exam as part of Osmania University Post Graduation Common Entrance Test (OU PGCET) on June 13 will have to write the exam once again as the university has decided to conduct a re-exam.

A university panel formed to enquire into the allegation that the question paper for Philosophy exam was reused this year, recommended a re-exam here on Friday.

“The three-member committee has suggested that we should conduct the examination again as all the questions in the previous year’s question paper have been repeated. The committee report has been sent to in-charge vice-chancellor (V-C) and she has approved the committee’s suggestion. After making the necessary arrangements, we will inform students about the re-examination,” said E Suresh Kumar, registrar of OU.

Replying to a query regarding action against the person who set the question paper, the registrar said that the varsity is yet to take a call in this regard.

“We are yet to make a decision. But strict action would be taken against the person who set the question paper as it amounts to negligence,” he opined.

Explaining the goof up, controller of examinations V Appa Rao said that it was not intentional. “According to the explanation given by the chairman of Philosophy subject, two sets of question papers are set every year and one of them will be used. As we had shortage of faculty, In 2015, the question paper setter used the second set of question paper that was prepared in 2014 and unknowingly, this year also the paper setter did the same thing,” he clarified.

“The shortage of professors in Philosophy department can be cited as one of the reasons for the mistake, however, that can’t be accepted as an excuse to reuse previous year’s question paper,” he added.

According to the officials, it would take at least ten days to make all arrangements and release a notification to conduct a re-examination.
