HYDERABAD: A Bill to amend Telangana (Agricultural Produce and Livestock) Markets Act, 1966, meant for undertaking reforms in constitution of agriculture market committees duly implementing the rule of reservation for SCs, STs, BCs and minorities for nomination of chairman to agricultural market committees was unanimously passed by the Telangana Assembly on Tuesday.
Irrigation and marketing minister T Harish Rao introduced the Bill for providing reservations in agriculture market committees.
Speaking on the Bill, Chinna Reddy said the government has to provide reservations to women along with SC, ST and BCs in the market committees.
Reacting to it, CM K Chandrasekhar Rao said the government was receiving Chinna Reddy’s suggestion in a positive way and moved the motion for providing 33 per cent reservation to women in all categories in the appointment of chairpersons of agriculture market committees.Speaker Madhusudhan Chary has admitted the motion on voice vote and amended the Bill adding women after BCs in the amendment clause. The Bill was passed unanimously.
The CM also accepted the demand made by TDP member Sandra Venkata Veeraiah for providing reservation to minorities on which Rao said that minorities would be accommodated in BC quota.
