NAGARKURNOOL: Farmers from Uppununthala mandal in Achampeta Assembly Constituency met district collector Sridhar on Wednesday and submitted a representation requesting to provide water from the Kalwakurthy lift irrigation project.

The farmers told the collector that their mandal falls under the irrigation project.
As many as 1,000 farmers from several villages of the district came to the collector’s office to submit the representation.

Addressing the gathering, Uppununtala ZPTC Saritha requested the collector to provide water from the project to all tanks.

She told the collector that the leaders from various political parties would stage a protest under the banner of Jala Sadhana Samithi if their demand of providing the water was not fulfilled immediately.

Meanwhile, Saritha alleged that the state Cabinet ministers could not give a complete assurance to them when the issue was raised during the ZP general body meeting.

Saritha told the collector that the farmers would sustain huge losses if they did not get water immediately.
