HYDERABAD: Despite Telangana’s Director of Medical Education Dr K Ramesh Reddy passing instructions to address issues at Minor Operation Theatre (MOT) at Osmania General Hospital, not all issues have been fixed there. One of the crucial basic facility- Autoclaves which are used for sterilisation of surgical equipment, have still not been provided at the MOT.A fortnight ago, Express highlighted that blood and pus-stained sheets were changed only once a day and Operation Lights were not working in Minor Operation Theatre.

Besides, proper methods were not followed in sterilising surgical equipment. A day after the story was published, two portable lights were brought to the MOT and a unit where infection cases are operated is being renovated. While the DME Dr Ramesh Reddy said that autoclaves will be provided to the MOT, it was not acted up on.

Sources said that even till Thursday, boilers are used as Autoclaves are not there at MOT. Under current circumstances, because of heavy flow of patients, sometimes surgical instruments are immersed in hot water and taken out in span of few minutes as more patients are rushed into MOT. There is shortage of assorted surgical equipment.Sources said the issue could be resolved if Flash Autoclaves or Autoclaves are provided.
