HYDERABAD: The protest over the fee reimbursement arrears at the Telangana State Assembly came to an end as the police on Wednesday evening shifted the squatted MLAs to their respective party offices.
Earlier in the day, over a dozen MLAs of Congress, TDP and CPM squatted in the assembly corridors after Deputy Speaker M Padma Devender Reddy adjourned the House soon after Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao replied on a debate on fee reimbursement issue.
With the chief minister not giving a ‘convincing assurance’ of clearing the dues and the deputy speaker not giving the opposition any opportunity to seek clarifications, the latter sat to mark their protest.
Initially, the BJP and MIM members too stayed back in the House but they later withdrew their protest. The Congress, TDP and CPM members, however, squatted inside the House for more than four hours demanding an assurance that the dues will be cleared immediately.
As the MLAs did not come out, they were arrested and shifted to their respective party offices.
