HYDERABAD: On the first death anniversary of Rohith Vemula, UoH students led a mashaal juloos (candle light march) to strengthen the fight for justice for Vemula. They started from Shopcom (Velivada) inside the university at 6 pm on Monday raising slogans against varsity vice-chancellor Appa Rao Podile and calling him casteist.

"The juloos has set the stage for a fiery protest on Jan 17, which is another chapter in the unfinished story of justice for Rohith," said Dontha Prashant, who is among the four students who had undergone disciplinary action on campus along with Rohith.

At the juloos, students called out to invoke SC/ST(Prevention Of Atrocities) Act against Appa Rao. The first stop of the juloos was the NRS (New research scholars) hostel where Rohith had ended his life a year ago.
