WARANGAL: State Congress, which has decided to hold a public meeting at Sircilla on July 31 in protest against alleged police atrocities against Dalits belonging to Nerella and Jillela villages in Rajanna-Sircilla district in order to corner IT minister, KT Rama Rao who represents the same segment, has begun intensifying its attack.

TPCC chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy alleged that since ruling party members had connections with the sand mafia, the police tortured the youth brutally for torching their trucks. Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, Uttam said police had acted at the behest of the sand mafia, who has support from TRS. “If there was no pressure from the ruling party, where was the need for police to use third degree on Dalit youth? ” he questioned.

“If the ruling party men are not involved in the incident, why is KTR not speaking out?” he asked. The TPCC chief said cases under Section 307 of IPC and SC and ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act should be booked against all police personnel involved in ‘torturing’ Dalits in the police custody.

He also demanded the government to withdraw cases registered against the Dalits and take stringent action against sand mafia ruling the roost in the district.
