HYDERABAD: Ahead of her betrothal, a 22-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed to death by her ex-boyfriend in the temple town Yadagirigutta on Saturday.

Despite breaking up, the man, who had been harassing her in the name of love for the past few months, resorted to this barbaric act as he could not digest the fact that she would marry another person.

After stabbing her, the accused surrendered before the police.

The woman identified as Sudhagani Gayatri (22) hailing from Yadagiripalli, developed friendship with one Goruganti Srikanth (23) of the same village, who is working in Bhongir. The friendship soon blossomed into love. When Gayatri’s parents learnt about her closeness with Srikanth, they took the matter to the notice of village elders, as they belonged to different castes.

The youngsters were warned and Gayatri’s parents started looking for matches for her.  

Meantime, Srikanth learnt that Gayatri’s engagement was scheduled on Monday (June 12) and the marriage was scheduled in August. Unable to digest this, Sriknath on Saturday barged into her house and stabbed her repeatedly in the abdomen and back.

“At around 3 pm, Srikanth barged into the house knowing that the girl was alone. He saw her sleeping and jumped to stab her. Hearing her screams, her brother Ramakrishna,  who was outside the house rushed only see his sister lying in a pool of blood. He immediately rushed her to Bhongir hospital where she was declared brought dead,”  police said.  

The woman was stabbed eight times in her abdomen and she succumbed on the way to hospital. Srikanth surrendered before Yadagirgutta police confessing to have killed the woman.

Police said the girl’s father Sailu, who works in Yadagirigutta temple, lodged a complaint with the police. Based on which a case was registered against Srikanth and he was taken into custody.
