Five police officers suspended for alleged links with slain gangster

Five police officers have been suspended by the Telengana government for alleged links with slain Naxal-turned-gangster Mohammed Nayeemuddin.

HYDERABAD:  Five police officers have been suspended by the Telengana government for alleged links with slain Naxal-turned-gangster Mohammed Nayeemuddin.     

One of these officers is of the rank of additional superintendent of police, two are assistant commissioners of police and other two are inspectors, according to an official source.     

They were posted in various parts of the state.     

Inquiry was also conducted against three deputy superintendents of police, a police inspector and 16 other police officials, and action would be taken against them in two-three days, the source added.      

Nayeemuddin, wanted in several cases including a case related to murder of an IPS officer, was killed in a police encounter at Shadnagar in Mahabubnagar district on August 8, 2016.     

He later turned a gangster and indulged in land grabbing, extortion, kidnapping, etc.
