Finance department to conduct audit of other departments

HYDERABAD: The state finance department will henceforth audit expenditure incurred by all other departments. Finance minister E Rajender suggested that the finance department should have its own auditing system so that it could check the expenditure of other departments.

In the present system, the finance department releases money to other departments, which spend and audit the expenditure. For example, if the finance department released 1,000 crores for the agriculture department, the department will spend that money and conduct its own audit. Though the details of the audit accounts of the agriculture department would be available later, the finance department could not assess whether the agriculture department’s accounts are perfect or not.

In this background, the finance minister at a meeting on Friday suggested that the finance department too should conduct the audit of expenditure of other departments.

The state audit department would conduct the audit of local bodies. The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) would give audit reports various State government departments.
