HYDERABAD: Tense moments prevailed at Gandhi hospital on Saturday morning as two female Post Graduate students were held up by a mob of around 20 people and verbally attacked. The PGs who came under attack said the mob tried to attack them physically but were not successful as security personnel intervened.

The mob comprised kin of a 24-year-old woman who suffered multiple injuries after she fell down from a building. After accessing her condition, the patient was kept on ventilator and junior doctors decided to shift her to emergency ward.

“However, they demanded the patient to be shifted to ICU and started to verbally abuse us. Though security personnel intervened, the mob was uncontrollable. We lodged a complaint with police,” said one of the junior doctor who was attacked. She received confirmation that a case under IPC Sections 353 (Assault or Criminal Force to deter public servant from performing duty), 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation), 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) was registered with Chilkalguda Police. The patient died after the incident.

It is learnt that a meeting would be convened by the hospital’s administration on Monday to discuss security at the hospital. Meanwhile, there have been previous occasions too when junior doctors at government hospitals have come under attack.
