Telangana: 17 labourers killed as tractor carrying them falls into Musi river canal in Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri district

YADADRI-BHUVANAGIRI: As many as 17 labourers including 15 women were killed, while another 5 persons were injured when a tractor trolley in which they were travelling fell into a canal of Musi river, near Lakshmipuram village of Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri district of Telangana, today morning.

The incident took place when the labourers were on their way to a field for planting cotton seeds. According to police, all the labourers belonging to Vemulakonda village of Valigonda mandal in the district took the tractor trolley to go to a field to sow cotton seeds in the nearby Lakshmipuram village.

The vehicle started at 10 a.m. from Vemulakonda. When the tractor reached the outskirts of Lakshmipuram, and was proceeding through a canal bund, the driver of the vehicle tried to apply brakes to avert a crash with a bike which was coming from the opposite direction. However, he lost control on the wheel and drove the tractor directly into the canal.

All the injured persons have been shifted to Ramannapet area hospital for treatment, while rescue operations are underway at the accident spot.

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao expressed shock over the incident and directed the officials concerned to take up relief measures. He also directed them to ensure that proper medical treatment is provided to all the injured persons.
