Rock climbing, kayaking to start soon in Warangal

There are plans to encourage rock climbing and camping in the district.

WARANGAL: In order to promote adventure sports, Warangal urban district administration is conducting trials in rock climbing and kayaking at various locations in the district. It is learnt that the administration is taking the help of Adventure Academy of Telangana for organising adventure sports. Already a team had visited Ursu hillocks on the outskirts of Warangal city and Gundu cheruvu in Warangal fort to test whether they could be used for rock climbing and kayaking respectively. Warangal urban collector Amrapali Kata is keen in promoting the district as tourism and adventure sports destination.

She had already started night camping at Inuparthigutta hillocks on the outskirts of Warangal city. Boosted by the success of the night camping shee is now taking steps towards strengthening the adventure tourism in the district. As part of it, kayaking and rock climbing are being introduced soon.

Arjun awardee Sekhar Babu, who scaled mount Everest in 2007, has been entrusted the job of conducting rock climbing events. He along with social welfare hostel students who are undergoing training in rock climbing  examined the feasibility of organizing rock climbing events at Ursu hillocks. He is also looking for other venues for the event in the district. He  feel that Ursu  was very much suitable for adventure sports and water sports.
