HYDERABAD: Upcoming Assembly polls in the State is set to witness a novel initiative by the Election Commission of India (ECI) in a bid to promote women empowerment. The ECI has decided to set up one polling station run by an all-woman crew in all Assembly constituencies where the majority of voters are women.

These polling booths will be entirely operated by women. At least one such all-women polling booth would be set up in every Assembly constituency across 119 constituencies of Telangana. CEO and GHMC sources said that the all-women polling booths will perform all tasks as mandated by the ECI.
The ECI’s new ways of empowering women comes at a time when political parties have manifested a bias of sorts against women in allotment of party tickets.

All those in charge of conducting elections like presiding officer, three polling officers, micro observers and security personnel will be women. In other words, these booths will have a team of at least 10 women personnel.

The total electors in the entire State is about 2,73,18,603 consisting of 1,37,87,920 male voters, 1,35,28,029 female voters, and 2,663 other voters.
