Covid-19: Telangana forms four panels to execute vaccination

HYDERABAD: The Telangana government is all set to roll out the Covid-19 vaccine, as and when it is made available.  The government has constituted four committees — State Steering Committee, State Task Force, District Task Force and Mandal Task Force — for the possible introduction of the vaccine.

According to a GO issued by Health Secretary SAM Rizvi, it is anticipated that initially the supply of vaccine would be limited in view of the huge demand. Prioritisation of high risk groups will have to be done and subsequently other groups will be included for vaccination.

“It is likely that the introduction of the Covid-19 vaccine will span over a year with multiple groups being included sequentially, starting from healthcare workers. Therefore, it is important to create a strong advisory and an implementation mechanism at the State, district and mandal level. It is also necessary to ensure minimal disruption of other routine healthcare services, including routine immunisation,” Rizvi has stated in the orders.

A Vaccination Beneficiary Management System (CVBMS) will be created and the government plans to explore the utilisation of corporation social responsibility funds for financing various activities related to the introduction of the vaccine.

The State Steering Committee will ensure active engagement of line departments for various activities, while the State Task Force will provide guidance, including funding and operational guidelines. It will fix timelines for districts to plan and implement the vaccine introduction as and when the vaccine is made available.
