HYDERABAD: Alleging that there is an “unholy and corrupt” connivance between the TRS and AIMIM, Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani said on Wednesday that these parties espoused the cause of illegal immigrants for their own political gains but will not stand by an average Indian.

Addressing a press conference at BJP State office here, the BJP leader said that she will support a ‘surgical strike’ on corruption and illegal immigrants. She was in the city to campaign for her party.

“The ‘chargesheet’ that was presented on behalf of people of Hyderabad against the ruling family has not been responded to. The tactical silence of the TRS on the ‘chargesheet’, which has been put forth by the BJP, is a political acceptance of allegations that hound the TRS and the convenient support that they receive from AIMIM.”

She said that the AIMIM leaders have issued their letterheads requesting the officials to issue voter cards to Rohingya living illegally here. Claiming that there are 75,000 illegal immigrants in the city, she asked the TRS and AIMIM if it is possible for illegal immigrants to thrive in the city without their cooperation.

“A conscious State government would have undertaken an investigation to ensure that Rohingya Muslims are not illicitly added to the voter list,” she said. Stating that the law and order is a State issue, she questioned the TRS government for not conducting an investigation into media reports on illegal immigrants being enlisted in voters’ list.

Responding to KTR’s comments that ‘surgical strikes’ should be carried out on issues like economy, she said: “As the Minister of Textiles, I can proudly say that it has been my distinct privilege to ensure that under the leadership of Modi, Korean investment comes to the State to the tune of `920 crore. Under the National Technical Textiles Mission, a Rs 1,000 crore capacity production of technical textiles is being set up in Telangana.”
