HYDERABAD: In an effort to curb chain snatchings and other property offences, the Rachakonda traffic police have been actively conducting specialised drives targeting vehicles with irregular number plates or lacking proper registration. Since January 2023, a total of 48,998 vehicles have been penalised under the Motor Vehicle Act.

The apprehended offenders were charged under Section 192 of the MVA and presented before Special Courts. The courts handed down sentences ranging from one to three days simple imprisonment and fines ranging from Rs 3,000 to Rs 5,000. Additionally, the violators were required to serve two days of traffic community service.

Among the six individuals taken into custody for their negligent behaviour on the roads were Masku Sai Kumar, Vangala Venkatesh, Gunaganti Srinivas, Pathan Darvesh Khan, Y Manjula, and Rasamalla Shiva. The court imposed the aforementioned penalties on them.

As part of their community service, the offenders were ordered to stand at prominent junctions holding placards that emphasised the importance of driving with proper vehicle registration and the dangers of drinking and driving. These placards displayed messages such as “Do not drive without vehicle registration” and “Do not drink and drive,” serving as a visual reminder to motorists passing through major signals.
