Chicken supply halts in Telangana as traders go on strike

The shutdown affected workers dependent on these shops, including helpers and delivery staff.

Express News Service

HANAMKONDA: Chicken shops across Telangana remained closed on Wednesday after traders stopped supplying live birds alleging reduced profit margins by poultry companies.

The shutdown affected workers dependent on these shops, including helpers and delivery staff.

Tension was reported in LB Nagar in Hyderabad after a dispute at a chicken shop during the indefinite strike.

According to information, a shop owner kept his outlet open despite the bandh. Members of the Chicken Shops Association confronted him, and an argument followed. During the commotion, trays of eggs were allegedly thrown onto the road. Police intervened and brought the situation under control.

Corporate outlets, however, continued operations across the state.

Traders said revised margins have made business unviable and called for a resolution.

Md Amjad, a worker at a chicken shop in Kazipet, said workers were facing difficulties due to the closure, while shop owners had already cleared stock and supplied regular clients. He urged companies and traders to resolve the issue and reopen shops.
