HYDERABAD: In a major push to strengthen healthcare infrastructure in north Telangana, Health Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha on Tuesday announced that the state’s second-largest government cancer hospital would be established in Warangal.
The proposed regional cancer hospital, equipped with advanced treatment facilities, will cater to patients from the erstwhile Warangal district and neighbouring districts.
During a review meeting with senior officials, the minister also announced that the Warangal Super Speciality Hospital, currently under construction, will become operational by the end of this year. Once functional, it will be developed into a comprehensive tertiary care hub with state-of-the-art equipment, specialist doctors and adequate manpower.
The meeting reviewed medical services, infrastructure gaps and ongoing development works in government medical colleges, district hospitals, community health centres, area hospitals and primary health centres across Warangal, Hanamkonda and Jangaon districts.
Raja Narasimha said MGM Hospital, which currently offers 29 specialities, would soon add nine super-speciality departments.
He directed officials to initiate the process immediately and announced that the Warangal Super Speciality Hospital would be brought under the Letter of Credit (LOC) system, similar to NIMS, to facilitate the procurement of advanced equipment and ensure uninterrupted operations.
Among other announcements, the minister said an IVF centre and a drug and food testing laboratory would be established in Hanamkonda, while the Regional Eye Hospital would be upgraded with advanced ophthalmic care facilities.
The minister also announced that an additional director of medical education would be appointed as the regular superintendent of MGM Hospital.
