HYDERABAD: After weeks of dry weather, Telangana received moderate to heavy rainfall on Saturday night, with several areas of Hyderabad recording heavy showers.
On Sunday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad, warned of heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places in Asifabad, Mancherial, Peddapalli and Bhupalpally districts. Heavy rain is also likely over parts of north and northeast Telangana.
The latest weather system is expected to bring more rain to the state over the next three days. The IMD has forecast light to moderate rain at a few places in several districts on Monday and Tuesday.
Health department warns of seasonal disease surge
The Health department has issued an advisory warning of a possible rise in seasonal diseases. Director of Public Health and Family Welfare Dr B Ravinder Nayak said falling temperatures and increased humidity during the rainy season could lead to a rise in vector-borne, waterborne and airborne infections.
The department advised people to guard against malaria, dengue and chikungunya by using mosquito nets and repellents, and keeping doors and windows screened. Residents were also asked to prevent water stagnation. The Health department said public health facilities are equipped with special beds, IV fluids and essential medicines to handle any rise in cases.
