THOOTHUKUDI: A 43-year-old fake nurse was arrested near here after she administered a wrong injection to a pregnant woman, which led to miscarriage of foetus. The incident happened even as the State government continued to tightened the screws against bogus medical practitioners.

According to police, N Kaniammal of Thenthiruperai near Alwarthirunagari had passed Plus Two and had been practising medicine with the minimal experience she obtained when working in a private hospital as an attender.
Sources said Muthulakshmi (42), wife of Lakshamanan and a resident of Kulathukudiyirupu and three months pregnant, went to the clinic run by Kaniammal at her house due to fever. She believed that Kaniammal was a qualified medical practitioner. But soon after the injection, the pregnant woman developed complications.
She was admitted to the Thenthiruperai primary health centre first and then referred to Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital. The medical analysis revealed about the miscarriage.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Kaniammal had been an attender in a private hospital and was terminated. With that experience, she ran a private clinic, police sources said.
