TIRUVANNAMALAI: Workers engaged for well deepening works at Sunnambukara Street here on Sunday stumbled upon a  2.5-ft-tall stone sculpture of a king worshipping Lord Annamalaiyar.

Vellore Museum curator K Saravanan said the stone statue was a bas relief sculpture in one dimension. “The statue is not more than 400 to 450 years old and seems to belong to the Vijayanagara period,” he said.

As part of the deepening of dry water sources in Tiruvannamalai, the municipality launched the deepening work of one of the oldest wells.
