KRISHNAGIRI: Usually, it is the students who are punished for bunking classes. However, here is a case where a government school teacher has been penalised for his irregularity.

The teacher had been on a week’s leave without information. As a replacement, he had appointed a Class X girl from the village, who had failed in the exams, to teach the children. In the third week of July, Thally block assistant elementary education officer Subramani had visited a single teacher Panchayat Union Primary School which has a total strength of 38 students in Arul Natham village of Madakkal panchayat.

While inspecting, he noticed that teacher P Rajendran was not present between July 18 and 22 without intimation, said district elementary education officer L Natarajan. He found that a Class X student was conducting classes and claimed that she had been appointed by Rajendran for a fee of `1,000 since June.
Rajendran was charged with 17(b) of the TN Civil Services (Discipline and Appeal) rules, which is invoked for negligence with a dishonest motive.
