CUDDALORE: Collector Prashant M Wadnere, along with 50 officers, travelled around 60 kilometres from Cuddalore to Kozhai village near Srimushnam by a special government bus to attend a ‘Manu Neethi Naal Mugam’ on Thursday.

On a day when they were visiting several stalls set up by government departments, travelling in a bus would increase awareness on conservation of fuel and promote team spirit among government officials, opined the collector. State departments, from agriculture to Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), had their stalls. Hundreds of people interacted with officials there, clearing doubts on welfare schemes and the procedure to avail the same.

In the ‘Manu Neethi Naal Mugam’ at Kozhai, Collector Wadnere distributed welfare measures worth `1.47 crore to 1,309 beneficiaries. The Health department officials conducted a dengue awareness programme before the main event began.

“No other State conducts a program in the lines of Manu Neethi Naal Mugam,” said the collector: “It aims at the officials visiting village panchayats to take a stock of public needs.”

Explaining government schemes to help girl children and women, the collector discussed the social and legal ramifications of early marriages, while advising that girls, when educated, reached great heights.
“Officials of all departments parked their vehicles at the office and came for the function in the bus.

We conserved so much fuel, while also sending a message on fuel conservation. This has also helped increase some team spirit, I hope,” smiled the collector. Kattumannarkoil MLA Naga Murugumaran, DRO G Vijaya, Chidambaram RDO Rajendran and many other officials were present.
