TIRUCHY: Demanding the All India Institute and Medical Science (AIIMS) Institute facility to be established at Sengipatti in Thanjavur district, at least 5,000 villagers formed a human chain between Sengipatti and Pudukudi, a 7 km stretch on Saturday evening.

Elected representatives from both DMK and AIADMK participated in the protest along with few other political leaders from various outfits raising a common demand to establish the world-class medical facility in Sengipatti, Thanjavur.

People from at least 50 villages in and around Sengipatti convened by the Struggle Committee for AIIMS in Sengipatti through placards sought the State and Central governments to select Sengipatti as the desired site for AIIMS as the venue could be easily accessed by plenty of needy people in underdeveloped districts including Ariyalur, Perambalur, and Nagapattinam.
