ESIC Joint director under CBI scanner

CHENNAI: A joint director of Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) in Madurai is under the scanner of the CBI for allegedly allowing a private college to delay payment of outstanding dues to the corporation and demanding illegal gratification for waiver of damages for non-payment.

CBI said R Thineshkumar, in-charge joint director of ESIC, sub regional office, Madurai, demanded illegal gratification from K Raja Mohan, representative of EMG Yadava Women’s College to waive `7 lakh, which is being levied for non-payment of ESI.

There are three ESI cases pertaining to EMG Yadava Women’s College Thiruppalai, Madurai in which `7 lakh was levied for non-payment of ESI and an interest of `4 lakh. Thineshkumar allegedly assured Mohan to waive damages if he handed over illegal gratification directly, CBI said.

Raja Mohan and other public servants are booked under various sections of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

Three ESI cases

There are three ESI cases pertaining to EMG Yadava Women’s College Thiruppalai, Madurai in which D7 lakh was levied for non-payment of Employees State Insurance and an additional interest payment of D4 lakh.
