Power Min urges Piyush Goyal to allot coal to TN on daily basis

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Minister for Electricity P Thangamani on Thursday met Union Minister of Railways and Coal Piyush Goyal, seeking allocation of coal on a daily basis since the State required 72,000 tonnes of coal for its thermal power stations.

Thangamani, along with M Saikumar, Chairman and managing director, Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) also requested 20 railway coaches to transport coal to the State.
The two also met Union Renewable Energy Minister RK Singh and requested him to expedite the Cheyyur ultra mega power project and reiterated the State’s long-standing demand for allocation of 2000 MW power from the third and fourth units of Kudankulam power plant.

The State Minister also sought a green corridor to facilitate the sale of surplus power from the State, establishment of 765-KV power transmission network and `17,000 crore subsidy for disaster-resistant power infrastructure.
