HYDERABAD: On Monday, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao threw light on the investigations into the activities of slain Naxalite-turned-gangster Mohammed Nayeemuddin. Nayeemuddin, also known as Nayeem, who was killed in an alleged encounter with the police, was involved in more than 50 cases of murder, the CM said, even as he ruled out handing over the investigation to the CBI, stating that the State police was more than capable of handling the matter.

The state police has established evidence in 27 murder cases and investigation into nearly 25 cases is on. Participating in a short discussion on Nayeem’s gang and the state of law and order in Telangana on the floor of the Assembly, KCR said that so far 174 cases had been registered and 124 persons arrested in connection with the alleged atrocities committed by the Nayeem gang, which operated from Bhongir area of Nalgonda.
