TUs Seek Judicial Probe Into Violence

PUDUCHERRY: Various trade unions, on Saturday, staged a demonstration seeking  a judicial probe into the death of trade union leader Murali Mohan of Regency Ceramics and injuries to nine others in police action at Yanam, an enclave of Puducherry, on Friday.

AITUC, CITU, INTUC, UTUC, BMS, MLF and others  that participated in the demonstration held  near the Venkatasubba Reddiar statue also demanded that the death of Murali Mohan, allegedly in police custody, be registered as a murder case and inquired.

Further they sought the dissmisal of those responsible for the firing and a govt compensation of `25 lakh for the family of Murali Mohan and `10 lakh each to the nine persons injured in police firing. The joint memorandum was signed by trade union leaders and submitted to CM.

AITUC president R Viswanathan,  also a former minister, who led a delegation of trade unions presented a memorandum to the Chief minister at the end of a demonstration.

Chief minister Rangasamy said that he was waiting for a report from Collector S B Deepak Kumar in this regard and would take appropriate action.
