Rina Dhaka goes the tribal way in her festive couture

Jaydeep Ghosh

On Thursday at Oberoi Hotel, we saw some old fashionistas like former model Manpreet Brar and designer Ritu Beri who we don’t see often these days. The occasion was the festive couture presentation of Rina Dhaka.

Dhaka’s Festive Couture Fall/Winter 2012 Collection, in her own words, was, “Verbose iconography of tribal India.”

Hence, we saw intricate tribal embroidery work from the Bhuj region embellishing the ensembles.

Sheer Tulle or Lace—a popular element in season’s bridalwear— added sensuality to Dhaka’s formfitting silhouettes.

However, one thing that stood out was the use of east-European models on the ramp.

Yes, these are posing serious threat to the Indian models. Also seen were Shashi and Sunanda Tharoor, designer Rohit Gandhi, Niamat Bakshi with mom-in-law Minu Bakshi and Amit and Divya Burman.
