DCW chief's appointments under Jung's lens glare

At present, apart from eight government employees, all 85 employees are AAP workers

NEW DELHI: Taking a strong note of 85 arbitrary appointments in the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) in the last one year, Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung has asked for a proper investigation into the matter and has sought a report within a week.

It was The Sunday Standard that reported on July 31 that as many as 90 per cent of contractual staff of the Delhi Commission for Women, led by AAP leader Swati Maliwal, are members of her party. Her officer bearers sit in three small rooms in the Delhi office and the recruitments norms have been flouted rampantly.

Jung has also sought details of each and every person working in the commission and the facilities availed by them apart from their attendance records.

Maliwal, wife of party Haryana convener Naveen Jaihind, picked up people arbitrarily and appointed them without even putting up advertisements. The minimum qualification to appoint consultants is Master’s in Social Welfare.

At present, apart from eight government employees, all 85 employees are AAP workers. The commission’s three members—Promila Gupta, Farheen Malik and Sarika Chaudhary—are full-time AAP workers.

Former DCW chief Barkha Shukla Singh on Friday filed a complaint with the Anti-Corruption Branch alleging the discrepancies.

Sources said that senior advocate and AAP leader HS Poolka’s daughter Prabhsahay Phoolka has been made legal consultants at Rs 35,000 per month and interestingly she is campaigning in Punjab for the party. Many hired consultants are also busy with Punjab poll work rather than doing what they were hired for.
