KOCHI: You’ve heard of people getting married after becoming friends on Facebook. Now, Twitter followers tying the nuptial knot seems to be the trending hashtag.

A Malayali couple, who followed each other on Twitter, interacted and perhaps proposed through a direct message (DM) on the social media platform, has come out of the ‘digital world’ to the real world and got married here last week. Seenu Sudhakaran and Vinu Govind, who tweet under the handle @BlabbingFingers and @Govindhan916 respectively, have, however, kept their affair a well-guarded secret even from among their many followers. Even their tweets are ‘protected’—meaning the tweets are accessible only to those who the couple is comfortable with.

The twitterati marriage was attended by their followers from across Kerala and even abroad, among others, who created a tweeterstorm—a sudden spike in activity surrounding a certain topic on Twitter—in the marriage hall.

Tweeting under the hashtag SenuVinu (#SenuVinu), the young couple’s ‘followers’ livetweeted images from the marriage function, even while blessing the them a happy married life.

“The wedding was an occasion for many of us to meet and interact for the first time,” said a person who attended the marriage. “Several of us knew each other only through our Twitter interactions. Normally, many of them might not attend the marriages of their own relatives, but they have come from distant places just to meet the long-time followers,” he added.

“Had a delicious Sadhya at #SeenuVinu wedding with @tittoantony @vineethjose @vivekpoduval @feekary @suhasmangari @UkkenTintu @jagguus,” tweeted @Aashkey.  Meanwhile, Ahmad Vaseem (@ajvaseem), founder & CEO of  @whyletz & @thinkin_park, shared photos of the couple, from the marriage venue, with his team.
