Women Conductors Get Karate-Ready in Telangana

HYDERABAD: To help the women conductors defend from day-to-day challenges, Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) has organised karate training classes for them.

At a two-day training programme in the art of self-defence, 14 women employees of the corporation from various zones in Hyderabad were taught how to thwart sudden attacks and stalking. Officials of the corporation said that the classes will help the women deal with such situations whether on the job or off the job.

As the public transport facility operates till late hours, woman employees often have to take help of male colleagues or relatives to reach home at night after completing duties. “These training classes help the women defend themselves in situations of crisis, when they are on or off the duty. It empowers and develops their self-confidence,” said TSRTC’s joint managing director GV Ramana Rao.
