Hyderabad Puppy Killer Faces Heat

Express News Service

Days after the video of a man stabbing three stray dogs and thrashing a puppy to death outside a metro station in Delhi emerged, a similar incident came to light at Barkatpura in Hyderabad recently. Sharath J, a watchman of Indira Apartments, allegedly battered to death an eight-month-old stray puppy with a brick. Based on a complaint from animal rights organisation Humane Society International, a case has been registered at Kachiguda police station. “There is no arrest. It is a bailable offence. We will file a charge sheet in the court for further course of action,” said the Kachiguda SHO. A case has been registered under section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. An NGO, along with People for Animals, is petitioning the Prime Minister and the Speaker of Lok Sabha to bring about an increase in animal cruelty penalties under the act with a #ShaktimanAct.
