NEW DELHI: A hawk at the helm of the Pakistan Army is not good news for India. Lt. Gen. Qamar Bajwa’s elevation to Army chief portends more heat along the Line of Control, since the beheading of two Indian soldiers in 2013 happened on his watch. Bajwa, a dark horse in the race, had served under former Indian army chief Gen. Bikram Singh during an UN mission in Congo. He has extensive experience on Kashmir, having commanded 10 Corps guarding LoC on the Pak side. It is also the largest military formation in the Pak Army. Bajwa’s Baloch Regiment has produced three Chiefs —Generals Yahya Khan, Aslam Beg and Parvez Kayani.
