NEW DELHI: To expand its outreach and help students, the Delhi University has added new cities to its existing list of examination centres. Entrance test for the university’s Post Graduate and Professional Under Graduate courses for the next academic session will now also be held in Patna, Guwahati, Bhubaneswar, Ranchi and Chandigarh. Last year, exams were held only in Bengaluru, Chennai, Varanasi, Delhi, Nagpur and Jammu.
In consonance with the Prime Minister’s ‘Digital India’ programme, the entire process has been made online.
However, the Delhi University Students’ Union is opposing the plan. They say that students who come from rural and marginal section of the society do not have the facility and knowledge of computers to appear for online tests.
In a meeting of the Examination Committee chaired by Dean Sciences Prof Maharaj K Pandit, the decision was taken keeping in view the increasing number of aspirants. “We get application from all over the country. The many centres will help save aspirants’ time and energy,” a senior member of the Examination Committee said.
Last year only the application process was online. The university has also decided to start the registration process for the next academic session from mid-April. This will give applicants more time for getting their documents verified.
