Partition. The mere mention brings to mind images of millions of people displaced. Blood, mayhem, loss, tears, and broken men, women and children. But Partition is also about the undying human spirit. Overcoming this pain and hurt, the men and women found extraordinary strength to rebuild their lives again.
With Shared Legacies, brings out a collection of individual stories in the form of photographs, performances and archival data. The event opened on August 8 and will go on till August 24.
The programme will showcase various aspects of Partition from The 1947 Partition Archive, which is doing its best to record, preserve and share eyewitness accounts of arguably the largest refugee crisis in the 20th century, to films on the theme of Partition.
Till now, most of the accounts were only oral. In a first, an effort is being made to record and preserve them. Panels have also been exhibited that talk of these witness accounts.
For the next 10-odd days, Bikaner House will be a treasure trove of memories. Yes, wounds will be opened once again. But, for some, it will also mean connecting to their roots.
