Thanks to infighting, MCDs sans leaders of house

NEW DELHI: Even one-and-a-half month after the Delhi MCD polls, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has not been able to choose Leaders of the House for all three MCDs owing to the infighting in the party.
Sources said Union Minister Vijay Goel and Delhi BJP President Manoj Tiwari’s rivalry has created two factions in the party. Hence, no clear consensus is being reached on choosing the Leaders of the House.

All three MCDs—North, South and East—have conducted one house meeting each to discuss matters related to preparedness on preventing vector-borne diseases. Though a temporary Leader of the House was appointed, the position remains vacant.

“A Leader of the House plays an important role in holding the House meetings, and implementing the decisions taken in the meetings. We hope to get the position filled soon,” said North MCD Mayor Pretty Aggarwal.

The Leader of the House is chosen by the party, mayor and the standing committee chairman, from among the elected councillors.
North MCD Leader of Opposition from AAP Rakesh Kumar said, “This is the result of fight for power within the BJP. The two factions want their representative to hold the position. All BJP councilors, including the mayor are new. They need guidance on taking important decisions.”
Before MCD polls, the State Election Commission had notified to change boundaries of 150 of the 272 wards, which is yet to be done.
