CHENNAI: The number of women voters outnumbered men in a whopping 189 Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu though the difference is ranging from a thousand to a few hundreds. In May last year, women were above men in 141 constituencies. Besides, district-wise data reveals that women voters are less only in Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri and Salem.  The draft released for summary revision of electoral rolls for the current year last week said that the total number of women voters in Tamil Nadu crossed the mark of three crore while men are yet to.

Since 2014, the women voters started going up and in every revision of rolls, their number is going up. As of now, there are 6,13,776 women voters above men. Another significant aspect is that the number of young voters in the age group of 18-29 stands at 1.27 crore.  The special summary revision will be done with January 1, 2018 as the qualifying date.

All those who attain the age of 18 on this date are eligible to enroll as a voter.  According to the draft electoral rolls, the total number of voters stood at 5,95,88,002:  Women voters 3,00,98,268 and men 2,94,84,492.  There are 5,242 transgender voters in the state. In all, of the 234 Assembly constituencies, women voters topped in 189 constituencies.
