THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former deputy registrar of Kerala University, Salim, 60, was found dead near the railway track at Pettah in the early hours of Wednesday. The deceased was a resident of Chaitram, Pettah. The Pettah police have registered a case of unnatural death.

Police said the body was found by the local people around 8am. The police suspect that the accident might have occurred after he was knocked down by a train while he was trying to cross the track, around 5.30am.
Salim used to visit the mosque daily for early morning prayers. He also used to buy milk  while returning home from the mosque as his residence is very close to the mosque. The milk shop is on the other side of the track. So the accident might have occurred when he was crossing the track to buy milk.

The body was handed over to the family after completing the formalities, including postmortem examination. Salim is survived by wife Suhra Beevi and daughter Kavitha. Suhra Beevi is a professor in the botany department at the Karyavattom university campus.
