THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The 40 km Champions Ride, the glamour event of the second edition of the Trivandrum Cyclathon held here on Saturday, ended in a photo finish with Sreenath L emerging the winner.
While Sreenath clocked 1:06:34 to bag the first place, Renjith C finished a fraction slower to end up in the second spot at 1:06:36. Anoop Kutty came in third clocking 1:07:24 in the 40km Champions Ride-Road Bikes category.
John Mathew, Nixon Joseph and Gautham Krishna K P finished first, second and third, respectively in the 40km Champions Ride-Hybrid Bikes category. Renjith C took the first place in the 14 km Fitness Ride,while Rojan Varghese and Ajith S came in second and third, respectively.
Mayor V K Prasanth, who was chief guest, gave away the prizes in the presence of Julius Lim, manager of SilkAir, Thiruvananthapuram.
Earlier, Sanjayan Kumar, Director, Sports and Youth Affairs flagged off the event from the Manaveeyam Veedhi, Vellayambalam at 5 am.
The 178 participants, who competed in the Champions Ride, Fitness Ride and Stark Kids Fun Ride category, covered the Manaveeyam Road-Vellayambalam-Kowdiar-Pattom-PMG-LMS-Vellayambalam circuit.
Anupama T V, Director, Social Justice Department flagged off the kids’ race.
The Trivandrum Cyclathon, the only mass cycling event in Kerala, is being organised with the aim of promoting a healthy lifestyle. It is supported by cycling clubs such as the Indus Cycling Embassy and the Trivandrum Bikers’ Club.
