THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Issuing a warning to the general public in view of the cholera report, the District Medical Office has asked for any case of diarrhoea or vomiting to be reported immediately to the nearest medical establishment.

The DMO’s statement also said that food should be kept covered and water boiled and cooled before consumption. Fruits and vegetables should be properly washed before use, the DMO said. Medical authorities have also issued a specific warning to hotels, restaurants and other eateries in Attingal.
Employers of labourers from other states have been instructed to ensure that they are accommodated in hygienic conditions. Sudden and intense stomach ache and watery diarrhoea are two symptoms of cholera. In a majority of cases, they will be accompanied by vomiting. This can result in sudden dehydration.
Test samples have been collected from wells and other water bodies in the municipality, district medical officials said.

“We have formed special teams for generating awareness among the public. The team will conduct house visits and distribute pamphlets as part of the programme,” Additional DMO Neena Rani said.
