Madras HC upholds order on lighting lamp atop Thiruparankundram hill in Karthigai Deepam row

The Madurai bench of the Madras High Court upheld the previous December 1 order on the Karthigai Deepam row. A two-judge bench allowed the lighting of a lamp at the Murugan Temple atop Thiruparankundram hill. The Deepathoon or the stone pillar in contention is on a different rock summit near the Sikkandar Badusha Dargah. Shortly after the order on January 6, Minister for Natural Resources S Regupahty announced that the State government will challenge this verdict before the Supreme Court.
