VIJAYAWADA: District Collector B Lakshmikantham has expressed dissatisfaction with L&T engineers over the slow pace of execution of the storm water drain project in the city. Due to lack of coordination between the public health department of VMC and L&T company in the last nine months, only a length of 8.5 kilometres of the drains against the total length of 443 km have been completed. In this regard, Lakshmikantham on Friday conducted a review meeting with officials of Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC), Public Health and L&T engineers.

He directed L&T engineers to ensure completion of at least one km per day of storm water drain construction.  He also asked them to deploy enough staff to complete the project on time by December 2018. “With the delay in the execution of SWD project, several low lying areas are getting inundated after receiving a short spell of rain. Engineers have been directed to provide day-to-day report on the project execution,” said the collector.VMC chief engineer R Ankaiah, public and L&T project engineer Saravanan were also present.
