Nine dead in China rains

At least nine people have died and more than one million affected due to heavy rains in east China's Anhui province, Xinhua reported Thursday.

Torrential downpour over the past 10 days have forced over 1,000 people to evacuate.

At least 781 houses have suffered damages, and 82,400 hectares of cropland have been inundated, causing an economic loss of around 434 million yuan (around $69 million), the Department of Civil Affairs said.
