3 Dead in Drive-By Shooting in California

AP

SANTA BARBARA (Calif.): Authorities in California say three people — including a suspect— are dead and seven others were wounded in drive-by shootings in the Santa Barbara area.

Santa Barbara County sheriff's spokeswoman Kelly Hoover tells KEYT-TV a second suspect was detained after the gunfire Friday night near the Isla Vista student enclave next to University of California-Santa Barbara's campus.

The circumstances were not immediately clear, but the station says police cordoned off four crime scenes, including one near a delicatessen and another near a convenience store.

The shooting prompted officials and the university to issue alerts urging people to stay indoors.

Isla Vista is known for parties, including one last month that turned into a violent blowout.
