South Korea President Postpones US Visit After MERS Outbreak

BEIJING: South Korea President Park Geun-hye has postponed her upcoming trip to the United States owing to the outbreak of the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) in her country.

Park, in a telephonic conversation with US President Barack Obama, said that she hopes to reschedule her visit at the earliest possible date, Xinhua reported.

She also visited the central headquarters of MERS control in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, to take stock of the situation.

Meanwhile, four more people tested positive for the virus on Friday, while one more death was reported, the South Korean Health Ministry said. The total contagion currently stands at 126.
