PESHAWAR: A village defence council member in Pakistan today escaped an attack by unknown militants who targeted his vehicle by a remote-controlled bomb killing his father and injuring two others in Swat Valley, police said.

The law enforcement personnel said that the blast targeted the council member Ahmed Zeb in the Ghat area of Malam Jabba.

Zeb was targeted when he was in his car with his father and two other persons en route to Mingora from his home. Zeb's father was killed and two others wounded, police officials said.

The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital, and the area was cordoned off by police and security forces who began a search operation in the area.

Unknown militants planted an improvised explosive device (IED) on the roadside which was blown up with a remote control when Zeb's vehicle was passing the area, they said.

Malam Jabba, a mountainous resort of Swat valley was known to be a stronghold of militants in 2007-2009.
