Final results from Catalonia's outlawed independence referendum showed that 90 percent of voters backed the region breaking away from Spain.

BARCELONA: Final results from Catalonia's outlawed independence referendum showed that 90 percent of voters backed the region breaking away from Spain, the Catalan government said on Friday.

A full count of the results from last Sunday's vote published online showed that 2,044,038 of the 2,286,217 people who took part voted for independence, with a turnout of 43 percent.
