Fading glory of 100 days

BANGALORE: There were days when ‘100-day’ celebrations were held in great style, with a high glamour quotient.

Every artiste involved in the particular film used to consider the celebration as a certificate in Sandalwood.

However, recently, the number of films completing 100-day screenings has come down. During the last six months only three films, Ambari, Josh and Savaari, completed 100-day screenings.

The producers of Josh and Savaari arranged parties to celebrate the success of these films.

Surprisingly, at both the functions, the heroines were conspicuous by their absence. But the heroes were busy socialising.

The trophies and garlands that are representative of such occasions were also missing.

Srinagar Kitty of Savaari fame said that his film’s success is real and no external factors have helped him. “I am happy with the success of Savaari. It not only gave me the much needed break but also increased my responsibility towards Kannada cine goers,” he said. Raghu Mukherjee played the second lead and Kamalini Mukherjee was the heroine.

For producer SV Babu, Josh is the first film to complete 100 days. His other films Savi Savi Nenapu and Bombaat bombed at the box office. “I thought I will bid goodbye to Sandalwood if Josh failed. Fortunately, the Kannada audience accepted the film,” Babu said.

The USP of the film is its script. The audience can identify with the characters on screen because the film tells the story of every ordinary family. Producer Babu and director Shivamani organised seminars on Josh around Karnataka, which helped in reaching out to the audience.

Emboldened by the success of Josh, Shivamani plans to come out with one more different film. “Work on the script is on. Selection of the artistes will be done after a few months.

I want to give preference to newcomers,” Shivamani said.
